1. Schedule your study time
A regular time and location where you will not be interrupted is a great way to get into the habit of study. Treat your study like an important diary date, book it in and make sure you go.
2. Get organised
Make sure you have all the materials you need to get through a study session without having to stop and go searching. Have your coffee and snacks ready before you start.
3. Create a distraction-free space
Switch your phone off, close doors and only play music if it doesn’t distract you. Whatever you do, don’t leave your email or Facebook open while you are on your computer.
4. Too much to do
Short, regular study sessions of about 45 minutes with breaks will help to keep you refreshed and focused. Also create a list of smaller tasks to work your way through rather than doing the lot in one go.
5. Motivate yourself before study time
Make a deal with yourself that will encourage you to stick to your studies. For example, if you get through that essay you have been avoiding, you can go to the movies later.
6. Switch things up
Who wouldn’t get bored doing the same thing over and over again? So change things up. Create flashcards and audio files so you are not always reading.
7. Tell people
Make your intentions to study or complete an essay public and tell your friends not to message you during your study time. This technique can also be a great motivator as people will hold you accountable if you don’t get your study done.
